Today me and Viki had fun on the weekly London Friday Night skating. London Friday Night Skate (LFNS) and Sunday Stroll are weekly marshalled street skates in central London. The LFNS departs from Wellington Arch at Hyde Park Corner every Friday at 8pm. The Sunday Stroll departs from Serpentine Road in Hyde Park every Sunday at 2pm. Both are weather dependant and they announce if a skate is running a few hours before the scheduled start. The events are open to all skaters who are able to stop, turn and control their speed on hills.

It was amazing and fun experience! Last time we was on such event was in Israel- Tel-aviv. The city views looks much nicer when you are on roller. Especially the you can view all the famous places in a very interesting point of view and much more quicker what you can not do by just walking.
It is must seen attraction in London but mostly it is the best experience even once.

This winter I visited Sella Ronda, Italy, for my ski vacation. Unfortunately this year I was without my lovely wife Viki, usually we are traveling together everywhere, so I missed her during the trip and felt lonely without her. But, I had two more partners, my brother Dima and his friend Kostya, we ordered a deal on October, from skideal, which reminds us to keep `dreaming in white` so we defiantly made our ski white dreams to a reality , it was worth the long waiting.

When the time for the vacation came, and we were in the Ben Gurion Airport, we were surprised to found out that we had a special aircraft just for the Skideal clients and everybody flying to a ski vacation. So we felt very special everywhere was their logo and in we even got small presents from Skideal, It was a candy and air pillow, so I now I have something that will remind me this trip forever.
The exciting part of our flight was when we needed to lend, usually the flight time about 3 hours, however because of the bad weather conditions when we prepared to land, the airport of Verona did not accept it. So our aircraft did circles in the air extra one hour, after we finally land other airport of Italy for refill gas. The gas refilling took another hour. So we landed in Verona airport after six hours only.

Sella Ronda

Recommendation:

Sella Ronda – the most recognized ski route of the Dolomites. It cover four Ladin valleys: Val di Fassa, Val Gardena, Alta Badia and Livinallongo.

1100 km

450 lifts

Snowparks

20 black slopes

115 red slopes

140 blue slopes

Like you can see lot of slopes is blue, so if you like speed (like me) the place is not for you.

Dolomiti Superski liftpass provide you ability to check your ski statistics. Because all your ski activity during the day is tracked, you can pirnt out a record of what lifts you used, how many vertical metres you skied and where you went day by day. Data is available on the day after you ski. Link

Campitello

This is small village with nice hotels. We stay in hotel Ramon, nice place with clear, beautiful rooms and sauna. There was one problem that their salads for dinner was not variety, every day was same salads.

We choose the hotel because of it was near of ski lift. But to get to ski area without stay in line we had to be on lift enter at 8:00 AM. The lift is working from 8:30 AM till 5:15 PM, but we get first lift at 8:10 AM. If you come at 8:10, you we have to stay in line 15 – 30 min.

.

Sella Ronda – Orange Route

Recommendation:

On first day we decide to do Orange route of Sella Ronda. This is route around of mount Sella Ronda by clockwise. This is round route, this is mean in end of rout you will come to start. There was different types of slopes. But what spoil the mood, is several blue slopes and transition with ski removing.

22 lifts

6472 m height difference

35 km slopes length.

The rout take half day.

Sella Ronda – Green Route

Recommendation:

Green route is better than orange. But there is same blue slopes and transitions. In additional lot of people choosing the green route, so you will see here more people than on orange route.

23 lifts

6472 m height difference

35 km slopes length.

The rout take half day.

For this vacation we have just 4 days. Because of lack of time we need to choose just amazing local attractions. I asked my friend what they suggest to see in Barcelona. And them like one sad that most interesting places is Antoni Gaudy ‘s works.

Attractions

Park Güell

Recommendation:

Park Güell is a garden complex with architectural elements situated on the hill of el Carmel in the Gràcia district of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It was designed by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and built in the years 1900 to 1914. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Works of Antoni Gaudí”.
The park was originally part of a commercially unsuccessful housing site, the idea of Count Eusebi Güell, whom the park was named after. It was inspired by the English garden city movement; hence the original English name Park (in the Catalan language spoken in Catalonia where Barcelona is located, the word for “Park” is “Parc”, and the name of the place is “Parc Güell” in its origin language). The site was a rocky hill with little vegetation and few trees, called Montaña Pelada (Bare Mountain). It already included a large country house called Larrard House or Muntaner de Dalt House, and was next to a neighborhood of upper class houses called La Salud. The intention was to exploit the fresh air (well away from smoky factories) and beautiful views from the site, with sixty triangular lots being provided for luxury houses. Count Eusebi Güell added to the prestige of the development by moving in 1906 to live in Larrard House. Ultimately, only two houses were built, neither designed by Gaudí. One was intended to be a show house, but on being completed in 1904 was put up for sale, and as no buyers came forward, Gaudí, at Güell’s suggestion, bought it with his savings and moved in with his family and his father in 1906.
Tips: Start your visit from central park entrance.

better known as La Pedrera (Catalan for ‘The Quarry’), is a building designed by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and built during the years 1906–1910, being considered officially completed in 1912. It was built for the married couple, Rosario Segimon and Pere Milà. Rosario Segimon was the wealthy widow of José Guardiola, an Indiano, a term applied locally to the Catalans returning from the American colonies with tremendous wealth. Her second husband, Pere Mila, was a developer who was criticized for his flamboyant lifestyle and ridiculed by the contemporary residents of Barcelona, when they joked about his love of money and opulence, wondering if he was not rather more interested in “the widow’s guardiola” (piggy bank), than in “Guardiola’s widow”.

The Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família, often simply called the Sagrada Família, is a massive, privately-funded Roman Catholic church that has been under construction in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain since 1882 and is not expected to be complete until at least 2026. Considered the master-work of renowned Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926), the project’s vast scale and idiosyncratic design have made it one of Barcelona’s (and Spain’s) top tourist attractions for many years. A portion of the building’s interior is scheduled to open for public worship and tours by September of 2010.
Our Tips:
Better time to visit is morning when there is no lot of people. There is two lifts up and waiting time can be more than 1:30. Try first the second lift that in end of exebition a line to the lift is shorter. So you need to organaze your time accordionaly to it.

Font Màgica de Montjuïc. The magic fountain of Montjuic is located near Plaza Espanya at the foot of the MNAC, National Art Museum of Catalonia. They are a must see thing to do in Barcelona. Around 2.5 million people attend the different shows at the Magic Fountain.
The Magic fountain has thirteen different choreographies – three film music spectaculars, six classical music, one zarzuela, a twentieth and twenty-first century remix, an 80s-90s remix and Barcelona, by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé.
The Magic Fountain has a water recirculation system which uses ground water, following the introduction of a drought decree earlier in the year by the Catalan government, the Generalitat.
The Magic Fountain is one of the city’s most important landmarks. Carles Buigas was asked to design it for the International Exhibition of 1929. He had the innovative idea of giving the water movement and adding light, colour and sound. He created the fountain as if it was a river at the foot of the Palau Nacional with raging waters racing down the mountain to reach the Magic Fountain before “dying” in the sea on Avinguda Maria Cristina.
The Magic fountain is open to everyone and free.
La Rambla or Les Rambles is the most famous street in Barcelona. The wide boulevard connects the Plaça de Catalunya, a busy square, to the Monument a Colom, a tall column erected in honor of Christoffel Columbus.
The often crowded street is popular with tourists and locals alike. The middle part of the Rambla is pedestrianized and bordered by trees. Kiosks, flower stalls, animal stalls and street artists are in abundance here. Traffic passes on either side of the pedestrian area.

Antoni Gaudí i Cornet (Reus, 1852 – Barcelona, 1926) built Güell Palace commissioned by Eusebi Güell (Barcelona, 1846-1918), who wanted a new house in Barcelona, in Nou de la Rambla street. Güell Palace was in fact the only building that Gaudí actually completed and has undergone no significant alterations since then. This makes is one of Gaudí’s most communicative works, a piece of architecture of complex eloquence.
Güell Palace was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 2 November 1984 for its contribution and influence on technique and form in modern 20th-century building and for its remarkable creative character.

It is added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Works of Antoni Gaudí” in 2005. It was built in the period 1883-1889 and is located at Carrer de les Carolines 24, in the Gràcia district of Barcelona. The site was small (smaller today after the widening of the street) and conventional structures already existed in the area. But it’s no one-trick pony – there’s great skiing to be had as well, for those with stamina.

Las Vegas, billed as The Entertainment Capital of the World, is famous for the number of large casino resorts and their associated entertainment. The city’s tolerance for various forms of adult entertainment earned it the title of Sin City, and this image has made Las Vegas a popular setting for films and television programs. Outdoor lighting displays are everywhere on the Las Vegas Strip and are seen elsewhere in the city as well; as seen from space, Las Vegas is the brightest city on earth.

The canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, ranges in width from 4 to 18 miles (6.4 to 29 km) and attains a depth of more than a mile (1.6 km). Nearly two billion years of the Earth’s history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. The “canyon started from the west, then another formed from the east, and the two broke through and met as a single majestic rent in the earth some six million years ago. The merger apparently occurred where the river today, coming from the north, bends to the west, in the area known as the Kaibab Arch.”

You’ll see black cormorants, brown pelicans, California sea otters, harbor seals, and idle sea lions all in their natural habitat. Colorful native wildflowers dot the scene, adorning the cool, soothing hues of the seashore and carefully preserved dune scape.

Along the way, you’ll encounter the emerald fairways of such famous golf courses as The Links at Spanish Bay, Spyglass Hill and the world-renowned Pebble Beach Golf Links. For a gourmet picnic lunch along 17-Mile Drive, visit Pebble Beach Market adjacent to The Lodge at Pebble Beach.

The Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail extends for about one mile from the Monterey Bay Aquarium to Lovers Point. The Pacific Grove section of the trail is part of the recreation trail network which runs from Marina to Pacific Grove. Formerly located on the Southern Pacific Railroad Right-of-Way, the trail has separate walking and cycling paths. It serves as a major walking, jogging, and bicycling route along the northeastern coastline of the city.

It was once stated that “to visit Los Angeles and not see the Chinese is like visiting China and not seeing the Great Wall.” Grauman’s opulent, awe-inspiring presence and history has been a cornerstone of Hollywood for over 75 years.
The grand opening of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on May 18, 1927, was the most spectacular theatre opening in motion picture history. Thousands of people lined Hollywood Boulevard and a riot broke out as fans tried to catch a glimpse of the movie stars and other celebrities as they arrived for the opening. The film being premiered that night was Cecil B. DeMille’s “The King of Kings,” which was preceded by “Glories of the Scriptures,” a live prologue devised by master showman Sid Grauman. A Wurlitzer organ and 65-piece orchestra provided music for the prologue. The theatre opened to the public the following day, May 19, 1927.

Paying tribute to famous industry figures, the medallions were first installed at the corner of Highland Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard in 1960. Since that time, more than 2000 other famous and not-so famous names have been added to the walk. However, recognition doesn’t come without a price – each personality must pay $15,000 for the honor. Celebrity stars indicate the individual’s area of specialty with one of five symbols: a motion picture camera, a radio microphone, a television set, a record, or a theatrical mask. Located on both sides of Hollywood Boulevard (from Gower to La Brea) and on both sides of Vine Street (from Yucca to Sunset).
Where to Start
Hollywood at Highland(Hollywood Blvd & N Highland Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028) This shopping-and-entertainment complex is also a tribute to Hollywood history. Starting from Hollywood Boulevard, walk up the simulated “red carpet.” Read the Hollywood stories set into the walk in mosaic. They’re quotes from people who came to make their fortunes in Hollywood, from camera operators to mega-stars. Pillars topped with elephants tower over the main plaza, recreations from the set of D. W. Griffith’s classic movie Intolerance. Walk to the back of the complex to lounge on the oversized casting couch and get a photo of the Hollywood sign.
Shopping is optional here, but do make a small purchase to get your parking ticket validated.

The Hollywood Sign is a famous landmark in the Hollywood Hills area of Los Angeles, California, spelling out the name of the area in 50 feet (15 m)[1] high white letters. It was created as an advertisement in 1923, but garnered increasing recognition after its initial purpose had been fulfilled.[2] The sign was a frequent target of pranks and vandalism but has since undergone restoration, including a security system to deter vandalism. The sign is protected and promoted by the Hollywood Sign Trust, a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to physically maintain, repair and secure the sign, to educate the world about its historical and cultural importance, and to raise the funds necessary to accomplish these projects.
Take a good picture:
– Get closer. If you want a photo of yourself in front of the sign, you need to take Canyon Drive or Bronson Avenue all the way up to the sign.
– Go shopping. The mall at Hollywood and Highland affords a good view of the Hollywood sign. Bring a camera with a good zoom lens and try different angles.

It is located near San Simeon, California, on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Donated by the Hearst Corporation to the state of California in 1957, it is now a State Historical Monument and a National Historic Landmark, open for public tours. Hearst formally named the estate “La Cuesta Encantada” (“The Enchanted Hill”), but he usually just called it “the ranch”. The castle and grounds are also sometimes referred to as “San Simeon” without distinguishing between the Hearst property and the unincorporated town of the same name.
Hoover Dam (originally known as Boulder Dam), which holds back the mighty Colorado River forming Lake Mead, is located on the Arizona – Nevada border on Highway 93.
There are several things to see before taking the escalators down to the Discovery Tour area. Walk along and see the winged angel monument, the intake towers (Lake Mead side), and cross the street to view the actual dam (Colorado River side).
When you’re ready to take the tour, descend the escalators to the tour area. You’ll have to go through a security screening, and only water is permitted for drinking once inside the tour facility.
Insider Tips
The entire tour, including your own personal sightseeing, should take you about 3 to 4 hours. Plan accordingly.
The best times to visit the Hoover Dam are weekdays between 9-11am. Traffic is low and the going is easy.
It is recommended to avoid the Hoover Dam on busy holidays and weekends. It can take up to 3 hours to cross the dam via car on days like these.
Hoover Dam is a major attraction. It is very much worth visiting but you may want to avoid the crowds. The slowest months for visitation are January and February. The least crowded time of day for tours is from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. until 4:45 pm.
Remember that you are in the desert. It can get very hot at Hoover Dam (lots of concrete, remember?) Dress accordingly and bring water.
When you are at Hoover Dam be sure and take time to look at the Hoover Dam Bypass being constructed. The bridge over the Colorado River is viewable from the Dam and as you drive across. The immense Colorado Bridge is both amazing and very scary. It is 900 feet above the river! I am not sure I’ll have the nerve to drive across something that high when construction is completed.
Parking: 7$ (CASH ONLY)
Hours:
The Visitors Center is open at 9:00 a.m. and closes at 6:00 p.m.
Center is open every day of the year except for Thanksgiving and Christmas days. There is an $8.00 fee.

Grand Canyon

The Canyon by Automobile
Well-maintained highways and scenic roadways make the automobile the preferred mode of Grand Canyon travel. To get to the South Rim, take Interstate 40 to Williams, AZ and then go north 60 miles on highway 64. From Flagstaff, take highway 180 northwest for 80 miles. The North Rim is located 44 miles south of Jacob Lake, AZ; take highway 67 to get there. Although the Canyon is only 10 miles rim to rim, the North Rim is 215 miles by highway (about 4 ½ hours) from the South Rim.
Photo Tips
* There is no wrong time to photograph the Canyon. Severe weather often provides dramatic images of mist and clouds. Clouds will often enhance sunrise and sunset.
* Look for what makes each viewpoint unique. Try to include objects in the foreground such as squirrels, ravens or a gnarled tree.
* Follow the lines of the Canyon. Use the walkway leading down to Mather Point as a visual pathway into the photo. Don’t just photograph from the edge of the lookout. Walk the Rim Trail for a few yards either side of the lookout. There are fewer people here, and you can get a sense of scale if you photograph the people on the lookout looking over the rim. A perfect example is Mather Point. Instead of walking down to the viewing area, walk 100 yards to the right (east) you will see the viewing area and the drop off to the Canyon below.
* Bring a circular polarizing filter for your camera. It will cut down on glare and reflected light in the Canyon extending the time you can count on good images in the Canyon.
* Place people to the left or right of the frame in your photos rather than in the middle. This is called the “rule of thirds” and will produce a more visually pleasing image.
* Before 11 a.m. and after 4 p.m. are generally the best times to take photographs of the Canyon. The sun is lower in the sky and the light from the sun will give more contrast to the side canyons and different rock layers.
* If you didn’t bring a tripod, brace your camera on the ground, on a handbag or railing. A small bean bag works well and forms to any surface.
* Unless shooting in low light you probably won’t need a tripod. The light is very bright at this altitude (7,000 feet above sea level) Arizona also boasts 330 days of sunshine a year.
* Don’t tell people standing on the rim to back up! Falling in is easier than it looks.
* Have each member in the family take photos. Each family member will see something different in the Canyon. Record who took which photos as they are taken so there is no fight over the perfect photo when you get back home.

Sunrise and Sunset
Where are the best views?
• While Hopi Point is unquestionably a desirable viewpoint for sunset, it attracts crowds of people and buses, especially in the summer.
• Yaki and Pima Points offer spectacular views of the canyon, are less congested, and may allow you to hear the sound of the Colorado River a mile below!
• Other points offering great east and west panoramas include Mohave, Navajo, and Desert View.
• Lipan Point, near Desert View, offers incredible views of the canyon with the San Francisco Peaks to the south, the distant Painted Desert, and extensive stretches of the river below.
• For a memorable sunrise, try Mather or Yaki Points.

Commissioned by the Hualapai Indian tribe, it was unveiled March 20, 2007, and opened to the general public on March 28, 2007. It is accessed via the Grand Canyon West terminal or 120 miles (190 km) drive from Las Vegas (which includes an unpaved and bumpy 14 miles (23 km) stretch). A walk on the skywalk is available for a twenty five dollar admission fee, payable to the Hualapai Indian tribe at the Skywalk itself.
The horseshoe-shaped glass walkway, at a 1,200 meter (4,000 ft) height above the floor of the canyon exceeds those of the world’s largest skyscrapers.
The Skywalk is not directly above the main canyon, Granite Gorge, which contains the Colorado River, but instead extends over a side canyon and affords a view into the main canyon. the elevation at the Skywalk’s location as 1454 m (4,770 ft) and the elevation of the Colorado River in the base of the canyon as 354 m (1,161 ft).
The majority of visitors to the South Rim first gaze over the Grand Canyon at Mather Point; although other places have slightly better views, Mather is the number one choice as it is closest to the entrance station, and right beside the road. The point has quite a large car park but this soon fills up on busy summer days, when excess cars have to park along the main road. It is not uncommon for both sides to be lined with vehicles for a third of a mile or more and for small queues to form. RVs and other large vehicles are not permitted in the official car park so they too have to be left at roadside. The park headquarters on the south rim (the Canyon View Center, opened in 2001) is a short distance south of Mather Point, accessible only by shuttlebus or on foot. The center is intended to be the northern terminus of a mass transit system, transporting people from large carparks in the village of Tusayan, but this is many years away from completion.

Yavapai Point has excellent views but limited parking and officially, vehicles over 22 feet are not permitted. It is an easy walk west from Mather Point, and like Mather has a visitor center nearby – the Yavapai Observation Station, which sells books and displays information about the geology & history of the Grand Canyon. Yavapai provides perhaps the best panorama of the three points on this part of the south rim as it is the most northerly, and the closest to the Colorado River, allowing for unobstructed views up and down the gorge.

Hopi Point has a fenced viewing area next to the road, and a vista over the canyon centered on Dana Butte, a flat mesa 2,000 feet below the overlook. Salt Creek runs to one side, meeting the Colorado at a series of rapids, while Monument Creek is on the other side, joining the river at another set (Granite Rapids).

This is also the point furthest from the river and so with the largest area of intervening buttes and ravines; the Colorado is 4 miles distant, and the cliffs at the rim are generally less steep than at other, closer overlooks, allowing a relatively easy trail to descend into the canyon (Grandview), though this does not go all the way to the river as the granite cliffs of the inner gorge are too sheer.

Overlooks along Grand Canyon’s East Rim Drive are much less visited than those to the west with the exception of Yaki Point, at the end of a 1.5 mile side road that starts 2 miles east of the US 180 road junction, near the national park entrance. Several years ago, the small parking area by the rim was deemed to small to cope with the increased volume of traffic, so entry to all private vehicles was stopped and now access is either on foot – by parking on the main road at a nearby picnic area – or by shuttlebus. Yaki is the easternmost stop on the Kaibab Trail Route that also serves Pipe Creek Vista and the Canyon View Information Plaza at Mather Point. The restriction also applies to the South Kaibab Trailhead, located half way along the side road.

Along with Desert View, Grandview and Yaki, Moran is one of the most visited points on the east rim drive, and offers far reaching views along a wide section of the Grand Canyon, approximately between river miles 87 and 72. The point is due south of Cape Royal on the North Rim – just 8 miles away in a straight line but 215 miles by road. The promontory is reached by a short spur road and was named after the landscape painter Thomas Moran who came here for the first time in 1873 and helped popularize the canyon, leading eventually to its incorporation as a national monument in 1908 (and a national park in 1919). To the west, Coronado Butte blocks some of the southern cliffs but there are still fine views downriver over a succession of red ridges and ravines, as far as Yaki Point where the Colorado bends back south. The eastern aspect is more restricted, by Zuni Point and ridges below.

Pima is the final point along the West Rim Drive, though the road continues 1.5 miles further, ending at Hermit’s Rest which has a gift store, rest rooms and cafe, though here the views are rather limited – the canyon edge is quite densely wooded, and the overlook is at the end of a side canyon. But from Pima Point, at the northernmost corner of a wide promontory, there is nothing to block a vista of over 40 miles along the Grand Canyon, from Bright Angel Canyon in the east all the way west to Powell Plateau and the Great Scenic Divide.

The park road cannot follow the rim any further east as the ground falls away steeply towards Cedar Canyon, a tributary of the Little Colorado River, so the many other viewpoints are all found to the west.

Zuni is one of the few points along the south rim of the Grand Canyon that has no road, trail or signpost, though it is easy enough to reach, by walking through the open pine forest for half a mile, staying close to the canyon edge. Cars can be parked on the south side of the road between mileposts 257 and 258, near where the rim is just a few yards away through the trees but begins to curve northwards, away from the road. As well as trees the plateau is dotted with various species of cacti, all bearing beautiful flowers in summer.

The walk westwards from Pinal Point to Papago (also known as Hollenback) Point could either be along the cliff edge or (slightly shorter) cross-country through the woodland, passing by a small limestone summit at 7,367 feet then on to the far northwest corner of the plateau. Papago Point ends with 2 semi-detached rocks, gradually being eroded away from the main rim, and for the best views it is worth climbing to the furthest one. This requires first scrambling over a narrow neck below two steep ravines that drop away to north and south, then descending the cliffs at the far side, to the base of an isolated flat-topped pillar about 10 meters across, then finally scaling the left side to the summit.

Although the paved West Rim Drive ends at Hermit’s Rest, several forest tracks follow close to the rim for 20 miles further west, from where other viewpoints could be reached by cross-country hiking, though the road (which starts 1.5 miles south of Grand Canyon Village) is rough and all of this area is very remote. But the next two points west of Pima (Yuma and Cocopa) are reachable on a day hike starting from Hermit’s Rest, so this first involves a ride on the shuttlebus, taking nearly an hour.

At Maricopa Point the canyon edge forms quite a narrow promontory, extending northeast for 100 feet before dropping away vertically, though it continues much lower down as a thin ridge between Horn Creek and the larger Garden Creek. This is the first point on the west rim shuttlebus tour (the Hermit’s Rest Route), though the second stop, the first being Trailview Overlook. The views from Maricopa encompass over 180° of the Grand Canyon, with no significant obstructions between here and the river. Several miles of the Tonto Trail are visible, snaking around Horn Creek and Dana Butte, as are some parts of the Bright Angel Trail down Garden Creek, though most is hidden by the Battleship formation.

Powell Point is another narrow spur along the West Rim Drive, on which is built a granite memorial to John Wesley Powell, erected to commemorate his two groundbreaking explorations of the Colorado River in 1869 and 1872. The point is only a 10 minute walk through the pine woods from Maricopa, past Orphan Mine, so many people hike rather than wait for the next shuttlebus. The vista is similar to that from Maricopa except that more of the canyon to the west is visible, though some is still obscured by the next ridge (Hopi Point). The river is not in view since it flows deep within its inner granite gorge.

Powell Lipan Point lies half a mile north of the main scenic drive, reached by a spur road that climbs 80 feet to the parking area, on top of a small summit that would have a 360° view were it not for the pine woodland on the east side. The starting point for the 8 mile Tanner Trail is located a short distance back from the parking area. The point looks down over Seventyfive Mile Creek and its tributaries, which run beneath a thin ridge connected to Escalante Butte and joins the Colorado between two of the over 100 sets of rapids on the river – Nevills and Hance (which are just visible to the west). Just downstream of Hance Rapids is the start of the inner canyon gorge, where the Colorado first cuts in to the prehistoric Vishnu Schist.

The rooms at Paris Las Vegas are elegant and the experience becomes like a brief vacation in a foreign land. From the Eiffel Tower to the Crepes at Lenotre this resort gives you a taste of the French with Las Vegas hospitality. If you love French food where else would you go but Paris Las Vegas.
What you might like at Paris Las Vegas Hotel:
Mon Ami Gabi sits right on Las Vegas Blvd. and they serve delicious food with great views, easily one of my favorite restaurants in Las Vegas. Grab a table on the rail, order a bottle of red wine and watch the people, the Bellagio Fountains and watch Las Vegas happen all around you. Take the elevator to the top of the Eiffel Tower and catch a glimpse of the sun going down over the distant mountains. Very romantic.

When Steve Wynn created the Bellagio his intention was to create the most luxurious hotel on the planet. He did not fall far from his mark, from the marble floors to the huge skylights and the extensive gardens you forget you’re in Las Vegas. If you include the world class dining experiences and the Cirque du Soliel “O” show you realize you might not care about the rooms. Actually, they are incredible. Bellagio is about opulence and the rooms are roomy, tasteful and a little slice of heaven. All at a price, the Bellagio is one of the most expensive hotels in Las Vegas.
Mostly high end shops with a few of the regular mall residents thrown in for those of us with a little less cash. You will be impressed by the arched walkways and the winding canals that make you ask yourself why you didn’t go to Europe instead.

The Volcano at the Mirage is still a good free show in Las Vegas. Sit out front and watch the mountain come to life. Walk in and have a drink at Stack and amuse yourself by trying to count the pieces of wood they have used to build the ceiling. If you see it you will see what I mean. The white tigers are still there as is the large aquarium behind the check-in desk.

Located on Lake Michigan, just East of Chicago’s Downtown, Navy Pier has been a Chicago landmark since it first opened in 1916. Originally designed as both a shipping and recreational facility, the Pier also served as a military training site during two world wars, a venue for concerts and exhibitions, and the temporary home for a once-fledgling University of Illinois’ Chicago campus.
As the Pier fell into disuse during much of the 1970s and 1980s, the State of Illinois and Chicago embarked on a joint plan whereby, in 1989, ownership of the Pier was transferred to the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, the same body which oversees Chicago’s McCormick Place. The Authority moved swiftly to redesign Navy Pier into one of the country’s most unique recreation and exposition facilities.
Navy Pier now showcases a unique collection of restaurants and shops in addition to unequaled recreational and exhibition facilities – in a setting like no other.

After the Great Fire of 1871, much of the debris was pushed into the lake, creating the fill for what is now the actual park. At the end of the 19th century, plans were made to develop the park and construct large buildings and commercial property in the park. But a Chicagoan citizen, A. Montgomery Ward, wanted the park to remain open space as had already been decided in 1836, and brought the plans to court. After almost 20 years of battle in court, he won the case in 1911. As a result, the park remains open space, offering a great view on the cliff of buildings on Michigan Avenue.
